Kentucky Colonels
The Kentucky Colonels were a member of the American Basketball Association (ABA) for all of the league's nine years. The name is derived from the historic Kentucky Colonels.The Colonels won the most games and had the highest winning percentage of any franchise in the league's history, but the team did not join the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the 1976 ABA-NBA merger.

In September 1974, the Colonels hired Hubie Brown to coach the team to a long-awaited ABA Championship. During the 1974-75 regular season, Brown completely revamped the Colonels' offense. At first, Dan Issel and Artis Gilmore struggled to adjust. But by April 1975, both players were mentally ready to carry Kentucky to the title.
